Who are Jehovha's Witnesses? What do they believe?
You may have had one of them knock on your door, hand you a tract on the street, perhaps you have seen the giant "Watchtower" sign next to the Brooklyn Bridge or you have most likely at least heard of the term "Jehovah's Witness," but have you ever asked yourself, "Who are theses people?" "What do they believe?" or maybe even, "Why do they knock on people's doors at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning?"
Well, I am here to clear some of that up for you.
First of all Jehovha's Witness is a religious organization made up of individuals who live their lives by Bible standards. They are modest, morally and physically clean (no smoking or drugs), and they preached God's Word the Bible as comissioned at Matthew 28:19,20 "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching tghem to observe all the things I have commanded you."
Ever wonder where they got their name? Jehovha's Witnesses get their name directly from them Bible. "'I-I am Jehovah...You are my witnesses,' is the utterance of Jehovah, 'and i am God.'"
As found at Psalm 83:18, Jehovah is the name of God, "That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth." GOD is not the name of God but it is rather a title, like Mr. or Mrs. and God wants us to use his name. A prayer very familiar to most is the Lord's prayer found at Matthew 6:9 "Our father who art in Heaven hallowed be thy name." (KJ) Many have uttered those words, perhaps you have yourself but have you ever wondered what his name is? I myself wasn't raised as a Witness so I was shocked when I learned his name was in the Bible all along but I had never used or heard of it.

Hmm...thanks for clearing a few things about Jehovah's Witnesses. Im taking a religion course, and we're learning that God is neither male or female, but a spirit, so in a way it's in correct to address God as a He, giving God gender. Would you think Jehovah's Witnesses would agree with this?
So how did you become a Jehovah Witness? Tell us the story and what made you want to join. Also, what is in that tower that we see crossing the Brooklyn Bridge?
Yes, I happened to be wondering about that before. At one point I was pretty much interested in most of the religions-- just wanted to know stuff about it. I guess I already knew what you wrote about the JWs, but I still appreciate it. It's nice to see people who still really believe in sth in this world. Personally, I don't.
I think I kind of agree with what Abida is suggesting, but I don't even want to get into the spiritual stuff...
Well I've learned a little bit more about Jehovah's Witnesses. But i knew about the name all along. I am not a very religious person, but I do believe in God. I just find it annoying that they come to people's houses and knock like they know you so you could open the door. I dont think its right to go and try to get people to join by going to their house. they are the only people i know that do it and i just dont agree with it. We're all under the umbrella of christianity, isn't it enough that we all believe in God and Jesus Christ?
hmmm, in judaism, "elohenu" in the opening of a prayer means almighty one/god. If you were to changethe vowels in it's spelling, it can also be read as yehova. Jew's believe that to be his name, but way too sacred to say.
Interesting, I have a few friends who are Jehovah's witnesses and they don't celebrate their birthdays - why is that? can you clear that up for me ?
This is so interesting I hope you explain what a Jehova's Witness is more indepth.
This is so interesting to me since i don't take much interest in my own religion, i am interested in how other people take to their own religions.
Very interesting! I never knew where the name came from.
Why do they come so early on Saturday? To catch people off guard? And what about Armageddon when is that coming now, and haven't they changed the dates of this?
